Allowing Space (pt. 1) : For tonights meditation, the focus will be on allowing space. This year has brought about so much transformative change that it’s almost impossible to process. With each hour, day, week, and passing moment the world seems to be a new version of itself. Nothing is predictable anymore. During the beginning days of the George Floyd protests it felt like each day on the streets was an emotional reinvention of the day before. Now two months in, it continues to grow in ways that are hard to define or summarize, though I do not think we should want to. To define it or summarize it puts a barrier around it. Contains it. Stifles it. Even putting words to it now feels like a disservice. This movement sparks an energy living within each of us and I am happy for that spark. I respect it. That spark unites us. It reminds us why we are alive, THAT we are alive. But that spark inside of us requires space. Demands space. These are fiery and dangerous times and what space we can afford ourselves we must allow. This idea of allowing space can apply to many things, today for me it means to allow space for myself, for my own inner spark to ignite in a safe place. To bring the fire without the danger.
